If you are self-employed, or have a spouse or common law partner who is self-employed, the last day to file your 2016 income tax return is June 15, 2017

If you file your taxes by this date, you will not be subject to the late-filing penalty.

However, if you have not yet paid your balance owing to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) you may be incurring interest on the amount due, as the due date for all taxpayer’s balances owing was May 1, 2017.

Please note that the balance owing due date is usually April 30 of any given year, unless April 30 falls on a weekend (as it did in 2017). In that case, the following Mondaybecomes the official due date for balances owing.

If you still have a balance owing, there are multiple ways to pay the balance. You can pay through:

1.     Your financial institution’s telephone banking services
2.     Your financial institution’s online banking services
3.     CRAs My Account pre-authorized debit service
4.     CRAs My Payment service
